In Prison Assaults

State police report that they arrested a total of four prisoners at Garner Correctional Institution on assault charges last week, following two separate incidents involving attacks against correction officers.

At about 1:30 pm on August 24, state police responded to Garner to investigate a report that inmate Michael S. Davis, 19, assaulted correction officer Mark Tierney. State police said Davis threw an unknown substance onto Tierney.

State police charged Davis with assault and with making a threat involving a hazardous substance.

Davis is scheduled to appear September 12 in Danbury Superior Court for arraignment on the charges.

Davis is serving a two-year sentence in Garner for a conviction on assault of a police or fire officer, according to the state Department of Correction (DOC).

About 2:20 pm on August 22, state police responded to Garner to investigate a report of three prisoners having assaulted a correction officer.

State police said correction officer Jamey Palmieri was assaulted by inmates Maurice Youman, 27; Noah Gladding, 25, and Christopher Norton, 25.

Neither Palmieri nor the three inmates were injured in the incident, state police said.

State police charged each of the three inmates with assault on public safety personnel.

Each of the three are scheduled to be arraigned September 12 in Danbury Superior Court.

Youman is an unsentenced inmate who is being held on a charge of criminal possession of a pistol or revolver. Gladding is an unsentenced inmate who is being held on a first degree kidnapping charge. Norton is an unsentenced inmate who is being held on a charge involving an attempt to commit a criminal act, according to the DOC.

Garner at 50 Nunnawauk Road is a state high-security prison for males, which opened in November 1992. The facility, which typically holds about 630 inmates, is largely used to house prisoners with serious mental disorders.
