LYONS LTD ANTIQUE PRINTS TO OFFER ‘Appreciating Art’ WORKSHOP w/1-2 cuts

avv/gs set 9/5 #711401

PALO ALTO, CALIF. — Lyons Ltd Antique Prints will present a lecture and workshop on cultivating one’s personal collection, “Appreciating Art: From Preservation to Presentation,” Sunday, October 7, from 2 to 5 pm.

Renowned art connoisseurs Leila and Dana Lyons will provide participants with the essential tools to cultivate one’s own art collection. Discover which works required appraisals and insurance scheduling, learn how conservation storage and framing can preserve art, and find out how to display a collection successfully at home.

After the lecture, participants can receive art consultation for up to four pieces of their artwork. Advisors will recommend care, maintenance and other tips for art conservation; help to determine if the current framing meets conservation standards; and work with the owner to design elegant wall arrangements for the home. All are encouraged to bring watches, pictures and space measurements to contribute to this exchange. Space is limited. RSVP by October 5 to 650-325-9010 or rsvp@LyonsLtd.com.

The gallery is also presenting an exhibition, “Recent Acquisitions: 500 Years of Italian Villas and Gardens.”

For the first time in the gallery’s history, it has obtained “La Pianta Grande di Roma (The Great Plan of Rome),” an Eighteenth Century map by Giambattista Nolli. Recognized by scholars as one of the most important records of Rome in existence, this enormous find (measuring nearly 6 by 8 feet) includes details of each building, church and fountain.

The gallery will also show a carefully curated selection of Johann Christoph Volckamer’s circa 1707 “Hesperides” engravings, depicting citrus fruits suspended over Palladian villas and gardens. Other “new” works include four Eighteenth Century etchings of Roman ruins by Piranesi and a collection of Twentieth Century abstract views of Venice by Vignal.

Lyons Ltd is at Ten Town & Country Village at 855 El Camino Real. For information, www.LyonsLtd.com or 650-325-9010.
