Eight Charged

With Trespassing

Police said they received a report about 8:12 pm on August 24 that a group of people with paintball guns had entered the premises at the abandoned Batchelder industrial site at 46 Swamp Road, so they went there to investigate.

The property, which is contaminated with industrial waste, was abandoned almost 25 years ago. It formerly was an aluminum smelting facility.

Police said they found an unoccupied vehicle parked at the entrance to the site. Police located the group of eight and had them return to the property’s entrance, after which they were each issued infraction tickets on charges of simple trespassing.

One of the eight was a youthful offender, meaning that the person is either 16 or 17 years old, and thus their identity is shielded from disclosure under state law.

The seven offenders whom police identified are all from Danbury. They are Kerlyn Taveras, 26; Max Reinoso, 18; Anthony Ramirez, Jr, 19; Javier Reyes, 22; Heriberto Lapaix, 18; Andres Reinoso, 20; and Yowi Severino-Mejia, 21, police said.

Each of the infraction tickets carries a fine of $92. Such tickets are appealable in court.
