The Ethan Allen Hotel houses one of the area’s best kept secrets with its 21 Lake Restaurant & Bar, named after its street address.

The restaurant is not only available to hotel guests, but also to the public looking to dine-in.

With a design that one would expect from Ethan Allen, the restaurant and bar offer both a warm environment to enjoy a quiet meal and a trendy spot to enjoy happy hour with colleagues.

Decorated with all Ethan Allen furniture, there is a keen attention to detail throughout the space — from the chairs to the vases selected — making the atmosphere a refined, relaxing, high-end experience.

Those looking to catch up with friends and coworkers can unwind in the lounge area that is complete with a bar and high-definition televisions stationed on the walls. Next door is the main dining room, where breakfast buffets and dinners are served. The restaurant also offers the feeling of outdoor dining year-round with its glass-paneled solarium.

The solarium can be reserved for private catering events for up to 35 guests and is great for everything from bridal showers to rehearsal dinners.

21 Lake Restaurant & Bar hosts weekly events and daily specials, including Taco Tuesdays with chef-inspired tacos for just $3 and trivia on Thursday nights, at 6 pm.

Those interested in receiving a complimentary birthday dinner and free weekly samples of local and regional craft beer can join the 21 Lake Mug Club. Membership also allows patrons access to industry events/tastings along with exclusive invitations to special events hosted by the restaurant and hotel.

Director of Food and Beverage Scott DoVale and Executive Claudio Portuense focus on sourcing local and regional ingredients for both their food and beverages to create a dining destination.

“The menu focuses on being as local and regional as possible, with an emphasis on seasonality,” Mr DoVale said. “The focus doesn’t stop with our food; we carry the same philosophy over to our beverage program. We spend time sourcing our ingredients to not only make a great dish or cocktail, but also to showcase the terrific products this region offers. We want to be an authentic experience — a New England experience.”

A Sample of the Menu:

Noshes and Shareables: With a dozen items to choose from, there is something for all to enjoy, including the Pork Belly Slider with White Marble Farms’ pork belly, pickled vegetables, jalapenos, and Korean BBQ glaze for $14. The restaurant also has introduced Steamed Clams to the menu, made with white wine, garlic, chorizo, fennel, and including crusty bread for $15.

Salad: The vegetarian and gluten-free New England Farmhouse Salad is made of poached pears, house-made organic maple citrus vinaigrette, and local gorgonzola for $14.

Soup: Along with the different seasonal soup offerings, there are staples like the French Onion with melted Gruyere and a house-made crouton, as well as the regional Classic New England Clam Chowder. 21 Lake Restaurant & Bar will be showcasing its specialty clam chowder at the 12th Annual Chowdafest in October as the first restaurant from Danbury to be selected to participate.

Handhelds: The Duck Confit Grilled Cheese is made with brie cheese and caramelized onions for $14; while the Fried Clam Po Boy consists of pickled vegetables, shredded lettuce, and spicy remoulade for $12.50.

Entrees: Seafood dishes feature fish caught off New England shores like the Fisherman’s Platter of fried cod, fried oysters, fried clams, and fries, slaw for $26. There is also the hand-rolled Sweet Potatoes Gnocchi with garlic, mushrooms, citrus, and parmesan for $17, which is vegetarian and gluten-free. All entrees are served with a quintessential New England product, BM Brown Bread, and 21 Lake succotash.

Beverages: 21 Lake has a wide-ranging beer list of more than 50 beers on tap and bottled. Its wine list focuses on showing value from all over, as it features wines from the Finger Lakes region in New York and wine that is produced right here in Connecticut. It does not stop at just beer and wine; there are hand-crafted cocktails made with locally distilled spirits. Happy Hour runs Monday through Friday, from 3 to 6 pm.

Desserts: From the delicious Whoopie Pie to the Tableside S’mores — where guests can roast their marshmallow to their liking — the culinary team continues to focus on utilizing local ingredients.

Brunch: 21 Lake offers Sunday Brunch for $29.95, with an unlimited salad and dessert bar. The menu changes weekly, and guests can enjoy entrees ranging from prime rib and eggs to a classic New England Johnny Cake. For the latter, the corn-based pancake comes with maple syrup from Crown Maple in New York. For an elevated brunch experience, for a total cost of $33, there are continuous cocktails.
