CT Master Chorale Announces Season

The Connecticut Master Chorale, under the direction of Tina Johns Heidrich, announces its 2011-2012 concert season. All concerts will be at St Rose of Lima Church in Newtown.

Now entering its 13th year, the Chorale will begin the season with its annual Holiday Prelude Concert on Sunday, November 20, at 3 pm. The program will feature a glorious festive medley “Christmas Joy” by Stephen Chatman, plus a wide variety of holiday music featuring brass ensemble, steel drums, multi-cultural works, New Orleans jazz, lullabies, and other seasonal selections, all culminating in a rousing gospel number.

The Chorale will present three newly released works for its March 11 concert. Gloria and Te Deum by Karl Jenkins are vibrant, passionate, and superbly crafted dynamic works that reveal the multifaceted talent of this prolific Welsh composer.

King of Kings Choral Suite is majestic choral music created for one of MGM’s great epic films by Miklós Rózsa, the legendary Oscar winning composer considered to be one of the founding fathers of film music.

The Chorale’s May 19 concert, entitled “I Hear America Singing,” will consist of great choral music of America and by American composers. The program for the Saturday evening concert will offer a diverse collection of general songs, patriotic songs, folk songs, spirituals, Broadway, and music from the Big Band era.

The March and May concerts will both be accompanied by The Connecticut Master Chorale Orchestra.

The Connecticut Master Chorale, founded in 1999 by Music Director and Conductor Tina Johns Heidrich, is a group of 55 professional-caliber vocalists based in western Connecticut. 

Newtown residents in the Chorale include Judy Bolduc, Ginnie Carey, Lisa Cedergren Anita Corbeil, David Jurman, Karen Orzechowski, Nancy Raymond, and Dan Yee.
