Members of the Newtown Senior Center Crafters have been hard at work all year, and are ready to present a series of pop-up boutique events this season.

Sale events have been scheduled for Saturdays, October 9 and 16, November 13, and December 4. Each is scheduled from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm at Newtown Community Center, 8 Simpson Street.

The crafters will be offering an updated selection of seasonal and patriotic décor, quilts, floral arrangements, and holiday cheer. There will be something for everyone, whether purchasing something for person use or as special gifts.

The crafters were working last Friday afternoon, set up within the dedicated space they now utilize at the senior center.

Judy Giordano, Virginia Hettenbach, and Adell Mastro were each working on princess wands, adding curly ribbon to rods that will eventually find their way into the hands of young shoppers later this month. The sales will also offer tutus and fairy crowns to complete or accessories outfits.

Joanne Galasso was selecting fabrics for one of the next quilts she will be making for an upcoming pop-up sale.

The women were surrounding by dozens of projects, most already completed and ready to be sold. Many works in progress also filled nearby shelves and containers.

Mastro and Hettenbach started pointing at many of the finished items — from papier mache witches, a pumpkin decorated watering can, and other holiday decorative accessories to various gnomes, decorated tote bags, aprons, and masks.

One table was piled with knit hats, some with pompoms, others with felt or knit decorations like flowers and butterflies.

A collection of gnomes, each uniquely charming, topped one shelving unit during a recent visit to the Newtown Senior Center craft room. Nearby racks were also populated with wall hangings and other quilted pieces.

While most quilts and wall hangings will be offered outright, one special quilt will be sold through silent auction. The Senior Center Crafters have sewn a 54-by-64½-inch quilt with a blue and white floral pattern. Bids will be accepted beginning this weekend, and will continue through the December pop-up sale, Mastro said last week.

The winner will be contacted after the December 4 sale, she said.
