The Newtown Middle School PTA continues its drive for new and gently worn used shoes Saturday, October 17, from 2 to 4 pm at the school, 11 Queen Street.

This is the second open drop-off day for the drive, which raises funds for the organization.

Those donating are asked to drive up and volunteers will take the items from there.

Kids shoes, adult shoes, boots, dress shoes, sneakers, and all other types of shoes will be accepted, according to a flyer for the event.

The shoes collected from the drive will provide inventory for micro-entrepreneurs in developing countries to help create economic sustainability.

E-mail questions about the drive to newtownmspta@gmail.com.

On October 10, the first day of the drive, the group collected 125 pairs of shoes. It has a goal of collecting 2,500 over the next several weeks, according to Dr Monica Kwarcinski, vice-president of the NMS PTA.

Anyone who would like to donate to the drive but who is unable to make it on Saturday can reach out to the NMS PTA, via e-mail at newtownmspta@gmail.com or through Facebook at “Newtown Middle School PTA,” to arrange a shoe donation.
