To the Editor:

Newtown needs a Board of Finance that represents all the taxpayers, not merely the wishes of the Boards of Education and Selectmen. Too often, town budgets are passed by the BOF unanimously without any meaningful discussion of budget reductions or proper consideration for the financial burden of the individual taxpayer, including the significant decline in their average home value over the past ten years.

Matt Mihalcik understands that our ever-increasing tax burden on residents and businesses is a recipe for disaster and will work diligently to make a positive difference as he did so effectively on both the Library Board of Trustees and the town Economic Development Commission. He understands that many residents and businesses are suffering financially due to high property taxes, and with town population growth that is stagnant, at best, we are running out of time to start effectively and responsibly managing our budgets.

For all these reasons, Matt Mihalcik will make an excellent member of the Board of Finance. Please join me in voting for him on Election Day.
