Cross Country Teams Race In State Meet, Set For Open

Newtown High School's cross country teams competed in the Class LL state championships at Wickham Park in Manchester on October 26.

The girls' squad placed 11th with a total of 242. Hall of West Hartford was first with 77. Individual results are based on team results (there were teams in the race with too few individuals for team scores). Newtown's Emily Tressler was 27th in 20:47, Rylee Harrell 36th in 21:03, Hallie Filan 58th in 21:49, Courtney Henchcliffe 59th in 21:50, and Emily Litke 62nd in 21:54. Gloria Rowley placed 73rd in 22:44 and Maddie Fetchick was 95th in 25:10.

Newtown's boys came in tenth with 290 points. Conard won the race with 63, The Nighthawks were led by Max Bloomqust, 33rd in 17:10, Nick Jacobs, 45th in 17:24, Will Tainter-Gilbert, 46th also in a time of 17:24, Drew Poseno, 82nd in 17:55, and Jack Kuligowski, 84th in 17:59. D.J. Bobowick was 115th in 18:38 and Max Hanson placed 143rd in 19:22.

Both of Newtown's squads qualified for the State Open which is set to take place Friday, November 1 at Wickham Park; the girls' race is at 2 pm followed by the boys at 2:45.
