A ‘Dangerous Moment’ Will Conclude Drama Discussion Series

WILTON — A dramatic scene from Lillian Hellman’s play The Children’s Hour will be the last play to be performed and discussed in Wilton Library’s series of four programs entitled “Dangerous Moments in Modern Drama.” The program will be Sunday, November 14, at 2 pm.

Under the direction of Kimberly Lowden of The Wilton Playshop, two actresses will portray a “dangerous moment” from the play. When it debuted on Broadway 65 years ago, The Children’s Hour shocked audiences with its story of a girl’s charge of lesbianism against two of her teachers. It remains a devastating study of the psychological effect of rumor upon a society.

The scene will be followed by a discussion led by Jordon Pecile, the professor of humanities of the US Coast Guard Academy.

The series, which examines some of the best scenes to be found in American drama, is a joint undertaking by Wilton Library and Wilton Playshop. Earlier programs dealt with Long Day’s Journey into Night, A Streetcar Named Desire and Death of a Salesman.

To register for the free program, call Wilton Library at 762-3950. The library is at 137 Old Ridgefield Road (Route 7).
