John Ball of the Chicago Fire, formerly of Newtown, scored his second Major League Soccer goal in the Fire’s 2-1 loss to the Dallas Burn in the first game of the Western Conference semi-final playoff series. Ball scored in the 79th minute of the game. He finished with 34 minutes played and had two shots on goal.

Ball did not play in the second game of the series, a 4-0 Fire win that evened the series at 1-1, sending the series back to Dallas for the decisive third game.

Dallas won that game to advance to the conference finals and halt the Fire’s run at a second consecutive MLS title.

During the regular season, Ball saw action in 10 games, starting four of those. He amassed 514 minutes on the field and finished with one goal for two points. He also committed seven fouls, suffered eight fouls, and was issued two yellow cards.
