The Newtown/Danbury unit of Church Women United is planning its annual World Community Day celebration. This year’s event will be Saturday, November 8, at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.

The event will begin at 10 am, and all are welcome to attend.

World Community Day is a celebration that brings attention to ways that all can be the Body of Christ throughout the world. CWU units around the world are looking at how they can bring healing to each other, in groups, to families, and in their communities.

The theme this year is “Through God Our Hands Can Heal.” The program on November 8 will be similar to countless others being presented across the country. Presenters and participants will spent time thinking about “seeking God’s wisdom about healing and praying for the grace to discern God’s will for us. We can begin to trust in God’s miraculous healing touch in our lives as we practice ways of healing,” according to CWU program notes.

Newtown resident Diane Leaman has been invited to be the guest speaker for World Community Day.

Ms Leaman moved with her three daughters to Newtown in 1987. She became a member of Newtown Congregational Church the following year. She has been active in several activities in the community and church throughout the years, and is currently serving as a deacon for NCC.

Ms Leaman began volunteering with Regional Hospice as a family support volunteer in 1994. She has been a volunteer for Regional Hospice and Home Care’s Healing Hearts Center for Grief and Loss since 1997. Both programs are based in Danbury.

Ms began working with the middle age group when Healing Hearts was situated on West Street in Danbury, and then as the Thursday night teen group volunteer when it moved to its present location on Stadley Rough Road.

She has also taken classes in therapeutic touch, reiki, and meditation, and enjoys reading about spirituality and healing.

Members of CWU Newtown/Danbury will help present the celebration, which will include responsive readings, scripture readings, prayers and hymns.

The November 8 program will begin with light breakfast refreshments including coffee.

A freewill donation will be collected.
