The Vein Institute offers a wide selection of treatments for those with vein and vascular disorders.

Since 2008, the business has been serving residents with a location at 33 Church Hill Road. It also has locations in Avon, Shelton, and Fairfield – the latter of which moved to a larger location at 2193 Black Rock Turnpike in September.

Vein Institute President/Founder Dr Alex Afshar announced that the business will now be offering the first and only-FDA approved cellulite treatment for women. The brand-new service is called Qwo, and he says it lasts “indefinitely.”

While there is no age requirement, patients must be evaluated to see if they are eligible for the treatment.

“If the cellulite is due to laxity — so more laxity than cellulite — it won’t work for them,” Afshar said.

Qwo works by targeting the specific cellulite dimples on the buttocks.

“It is a prescription injection for moderate to severe cellulite,” Afshar explained. “It breaks down the fibrous tissue under the skin that pulls down the skin to give it that dimple.”

He added, “Because these are simple injections, they can be performed by doctors for the most part or other qualified providers.”

When a patient gets evaluated, areas on the buttocks are marked and those areas are injected. The process takes place over three separate sessions that are each 21 days apart.

For example, if a person originally has ten dimples marked and after the first session seven are resolved, then the next session will focus on injecting the remaining three left and so on.

Afshar says that people should be aware that it is common to have extensive bruising after the Qwo cellulite treatment, but that it is temporary and part of the process.

Also, since it is such a new treatment, it currently is only for authorized for cellulite on the buttocks.

“It is in the works to be approved for lateral thighs, but it is not yet approved,” he said.
