Decorate Like Colonial Williamsburg

The Town and Country Garden Club of Newtown will present Felicia Valus with a program on decorating the home for the holidays in the style of Colonial Williamsburg, Wednesday, November 8, at 7:30 pm, at the Newtown Senior Center on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook.

Ms Valus has been an active and influential Town and Country Garden Club of Newtown member for many years. She has won many blue ribbons at state and local flower shows for her original and innovative designs. She has taught club members techniques for flower arranging and offers helpful suggestions each month when they present their arrangements for an informal judging and evaluation session. She has also given lectures to many clubs and organizations in the area.

Ms Valus will give a brief description of the background and history of Colonial Williamsburg and then demonstrate how to create a variety of decorations such as swags, arrangements for double doors, mantels, and dining room tables. She will show how to incorporate natural materials such as boxwood, white pine, lemons, oranges, and pineapples into the decorations. According to Ms Valus, any of these decorations would work in a traditional colonial home as well as a contemporary one.

The program is free and open to the public.
