Middle School Runners Compete In State Championships

More than 850 girls competed in the Connecticut Middle School Cross Country State Championships at Wickham Park on November 1. Newtown took 35th place behind Annna Northrup’s 10th place finish. Other strong Newtown runners were Jenny Indelicato, Molly Begg, Maddie gelinas, Kelly Coughlin and Julia Monaco.

The boys’ team took 38th place in a field of 953 boys. Patrick Rowley was the first Newtown finisher in 154th place. He was followed by Nick Lafky, Joey Whelan, Kris Whelan, Mitch Russo, Nate Steinebrey and Aidan Pellison.

In the sub-varsity race the Newtown boys were led by Billy Begg with Andrew Cragin just six seconds back, followed closely by Sean Kemsley, Knute Johnson, Chris Lafky and Sean Dalton.
