Barbara Oravez

Barbara Ann Killoran Oravez, 84, of Newtown, passed peacefully on November 12 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was the wife of William A. Oravez for the past 63 years.

Barbara was born in Bridgeport, Conn., on April 9, 1935, to the late Thomas A. Killoran and Marion (Burstein) Killoran Payne. She has been a resident of Newtown and parishioner of St Rose of Lima for the past 50 years. Prior to moving to Newtown, she was a resident of Fairfield and active parishioner of Holy Family Church.

In addition to her husband, William, Barbara is survived by her son, William T. Oravecz, and daughter-in-law, Rita J. Mulvihill, of Southbury; her daughter, Jennifer Prince, of Uxbridge, Mass.; and her grandchildren, Sarah Mulvihill (Oravecz) Fatibene and her husband, Dominick S. Fatibene, of Milford, Andrew M. Oravecz of Farmington, and Kelsey Prince and Aiden Prince of Uxbridge, Mass. She is also survived by three loving sisters, Jane (Killoran) Clancy and her husband, Thomas Clancy, of Stratford, Nancy (Killoran) Whitmore and her husband, George Whitmore, of Stratford, and Carolyn (Killoran) Baur of Haddonfield, N.J.; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara was a 1953 graduate of Warren Harding High School in Bridgeport. She held various accounting positions with General Electric and McCrellis Welding in Bridgeport. Most recently, she was a longtime employee of The Newtown Bee.

Barbara was extremely devoted to her family and was happiest when she was cooking and baking for her family. She enjoyed many summer vacations in West Dummerston, Vt., and Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Throughout the past decades, Barbara contributed to the ongoing clinical expertise of many medical students and residents at Yale-New Haven Hospital as a clinical assessment practicum volunteer for the Cardiology Department with a focus on rheumatic heart disease and its sequelae.

Calling hours will be held at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, Wednesday, November 20, from 4 to 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 21, at 10 am at St Rose of Lima, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Newtown.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in her honor to Regional Hospice, 30 Milestone Road, Danbury CT 06810.
