Hospital Offers Free

Diabetes Screening

DANBURY — Sixteen million Americans have diabetes, and one in three people do not even know it, according to the American Diabetes Association. Could you have diabetes and not know it? Find out at the Danbury Hospital Adult Health Center’s Diabetes Screening to be held on Friday, December 10.

The free screening includes a diabetes risk assessment and fingerstick blood sugar test that will be conducted at the Siefert & Ford Family Community Health Center, 70 Main Street in Danbury, from 9:30 to 11:30 am. No fasting is required.

Left untreated, diabetes can cause blood sugar levels to be too high. Over time, high blood sugar levels can harm the nerves, eyes, kidneys, and heart and blood vessels. It can cause blindness, kidney failure, and can result in the loss of a limb or limbs. Diabetes also can lead to gum disease. The good news is that there is a lot you can do to stay healthy. By keeping your blood sugar under control, you may be able to prevent or delay other serious health problems.
