Holiday Concert Program

To Include ‘Christmas In Wales’

The Newtown Choral Society will present its holiday concert, including “A Child’s Christmas in Wales,” a musical cantata by Matthew Harris, on Saturday, December 11. The concert will begin at 7:30 pm at the meeting house, 31 Main Street in Newtown.

Under the direction of Mary Andreotta and accompanied by Susan Anthony-Klein, the cantata, first performed in 2002, has set to music the text by Dylan Thomas.

The choir will also sing favorite songs and carols of the season, including the comic “You’re A Mean One, Mr Grinch” and “Dig That Crazy Santa Claus.” Other favorites will include “Carol of the Bells,” “Do You What I Hear?” “The Little Drummer Boy” and Mel Tormé’s “The Christmas Song.”

There will also be a special presentation of “Lullay My Liking,” a 14th Century song thought to be the basis for the word “lullaby,” and the audience will be invited to join in for “O Come All Ye Faithful.”

Now in its 24th year, the non-audition choir accepts members from all area towns.

Tickets are $10, $8 for seniors and age 12 and under, and will be available at the door. Call 203-426-3769 for more information.
