Ring In The Holidays: Volunteers Needed

The local branch of the Salvation Army is seeking volunteers to sign up for bell ringing this holiday season. Register at SignUpGenius at bit.ly/2020bells or copy the link into your browser.

Each ringing slot is one hour.

COVID-19 protocols for volunteers:

*Mask to be worn at all times.

*Six feet social distancing.

*Do not make physical contact with any donations or individuals.

*Position yourself six feet from the collection kettle to aid in social distancing.

*Salvation Army requires each ringer to view the COVID-19 Christmas Red Kettle Training Video (MP4) at redshieldtoolkit.org.

December 2020 Salvation Army Ringing Schedule:

Fridays, December 4 and 11: Bagel Delight, 30 Church Hill Road, first ringer 8 am, last ringer 11 am; Newtown General Store, 43 Main Street, first ringer 8:15 am, last ringer 11:15 am; Stop & Shop (228 South Main Street) North (near liquor store), first ringer 4 pm, last ringer 7 pm, Stop & Shop South (bottle return), first ringer 4 pm, last ringer 7 pm; Bottle Stop, 5 Queen Street, first ringer 4 pm, last ringer 7 pm.

Saturdays, December 5 and 12: Bagel Delight, first ringer 8 am, last ringer noon; General Store, first ringer 8:15 am, last ringer noon; Bottle Stop, first ringer noon, last ringer 3 pm.

Ringing at both doors at Stop & Shop will be done by the Newtown Lions Club and the Newtown High School Leos on December 5 and by Newtown Congregational Church on December 12.

Ninety percent of all the funds collected stay in Newtown in support of programs administered by Newtown Social Services Department for our neighbors.

The Salvation Army has additionally been donating food every two weeks to the FAITH Food Pantry and the Congregational Church during the COVID-19 crisis.

Newtown is blessed with many volunteers that ring for the Salvation Army year after year. Thank you for helping your neighbors in their time of need.
