Drug Charges

Police said that on November 25 they learned that the Bridgeport Correctional Center had in custody Gerald Cavaliere, 41, of 90 Hattertown Road, for whom they held an outstanding arrest warrant.

Newtown police went to the Bridgeport jail to get Cavaliere, after which they returned him to the Newtown police station and charged him with failure to appear in court, possession of narcotics, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, failure to keep narcotics in their original container, and use of drug paraphernalia.

Police said they made the original arrest in the case last August 19. Cavaliere failed to appear in court twice on the charges, police said.

After police booked Cavaliere on the drug charges, he posted a $25,000 bond and was released for a December 11 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Landscaping Theft

Police learned on November 21, that sometime overnight on November 20–21 someone stole several pieces of landscaping equipment from the bed of a truck that was parked at 40 South Main Street. The value of the stolen items is $5,255, representing a case of second degree larceny. Police ask anyone with information about the theft to contact them at 426-5841.

 

Poverty Hollow Break

Police are investigating a burglary at a Poverty Hollow Road home sometime between 9 am and 2:30 pm on November 24. Police ask the public for aid in helping them solve the crime.

Chevy Vs Deer

At about 5:15 pm November 24, motorist Monte Russo, 42, of Monroe, who was driving a 1995 Chevrolet station wagon northward on Little Brook Lane, collided with a deer, police report. Russo was not injured in the mishap.

South Main Collision

While traveling northward on South Main Street, near Simm Lane, at about 11:26 am November 21, motorist Christopher Ginty, 21, of New Milford, who was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer sport-utility vehicle, stopped for traffic and was struck from behind by motorist Carlos Pessoa, 23, of Centreville, Va., who was driving a 1995 Ford Econoline van, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Pessoa a written warning for traveling at an unsafe distance.

Intersection Crash

Police report a two-car accident at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Commerce Road about 9 am November 13.

The collision involved Maureen McCarthy, 64, of 159 Walnut Tree Hill Road, who was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Corsica, and Kelly Carroll, 35, of 7 Locust Drive, who was driving a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. There were no injuries.

Police verbally warned McCarthy for a traffic signal violation. Police verbally warned Carroll for following too closely.

Moving Violations

Police report that during a seat belt compliance checkpoint at the intersection of Queen Street and Mile Hill Road late on the morning of November 26, they stopped motorist Lacey Altieri, 20, of Naugatuck for not wearing a seat belt.

On investigating, police charged Altieri with failure to wear a seat belt and with driving while under suspension. After processing the case, police released Altieri on a $46 bond for a December 9 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Mailbox Vandalism Spree

Police charged three youths each with six counts of third degree criminal mischief on November 29 in connection with a mailbox vandalism spree in the Flat Swamp Road area in Dodgingtown.

Police said they received a call from a Flat Swamp Road resident about 3 am that day telling them that some youths were vandalizing area mailboxes by striking them with a blunt object. The witness provided police with a description, plus the marker plate number of the vehicle that the youths were using, police said.

Police investigated the case and at about 4:15 am charged Jonathan Lambo, 19, of 8 Country Squire Road; Steven Prorock, 17, of 3 Webster Place, and an unidentified 15-year-old. State law shields the identities of people under 15 who are charged with crimes.

After processing the three arrests, police released Lambo and Prorock on written promises to appear December 9 in Danbury Superior Court. Police released the juvenile for a December 8 appearance in Danbury Juvenile Court.

Milk Truck Accident

Motorist Scott Pannozzo, 33, of Dover Plains, N.Y., was driving a Marcus Dairy 1990 International truck westward on Mt Pleasant Road at about 2 pm November 25, when a vehicle that was traveling westward in front of the truck stopped to make a left turn into Hilario’s Service Center at 131 Mt Pleasant Road, police said.

In order to avoid striking the vehicle ahead of him, Pannazzo went off the westbound road shoulder, but in doing so the truck struck six guardposts and a sign, police said. Pannozzo was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Dusty Lane

Sometime between 12:30 and 4:30 pm on November 27, someone slashed three tires of a vehicle parked in a driveway on Dusty Lane, police said. Dusty Lane is a dead end side street off Botsford Hill Road. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the vandalism to contact them at 426-5841.

 

MV Charges

Police said they stopped motorist Brenda McLeod, 42, of Waterbury on Route 34 on November 30 for having an expired registration sticker on her rear marker plate. On investigating, police charged McLeod with driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without automotive insurance, driving under suspension, and misuse of marker plates. Police released McLeod on a promise to appear in court December 19.

Larceny Warrant

On November 29, police arrested Albino Darocha, 32, of Naugatuck on a warrant on a charge of sixth degree larceny in connection with an incident earlier this year in Newtown. Police released Darocha on a $250 bond for a December 11 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Dog Problem

Police report that on November 20, a dog, which is owned by Evelyn Augusto, 40, of 74 Jeremiah Road, got loose and went onto a nearby property, creating a problem for a neighbor there. Police said there have been previous similar incidents involving that dog.

Police charged Augusto with a canine violation. She was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on December 4 to answer the charge, police said.

Beaver Dam Road

Sometime between 5 pm November 26 and 11:30 am November 27, someone broke two windows on an excavating machine that was parked on a Beaver Dam Road property, police said. The incident is a case of second degree criminal mischief. Beaver Dam Road is a dirt road off Brushy Hill Road. Police are investigating.

Diamond Necklace

Police are investigating the disappearance of a valuable diamond necklace from a Dylan Drive residence, which occurred sometime between October 21 and 27. Police ask anyone with information on the jewelry’s disappearance to contact them.

Heroin Case

On the afternoon of November 29, police received several calls reporting a case of reckless driving along Church Hill Road and Mt Pleasant Road. Police said they pursued the tips and found the offending motorist parked at the Taunton Lake boat launch on Taunton Lake Road.

After investigating, police charged motorist Joseph Bromley, 19, of 79 Mt Pleasant Road with possession of narcotics (heroin), possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, driving under the influence, failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, and failure to drive to the right.

After processing his arrest, police released Bromley on a $100 bond for a December 9 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

South Main Crash

Motorist Zachary Lyon, 16, of 73 Taunton Lake Road, who was driving a 2002 Subaru Impreza northward on South Main Street at about 2:17 pm November 28, attempted to make a left turn into a business’s parking lot at 76 South Main Street, and was struck from behind by motorist Helen Macionus, 54, of Monroe, who was driving a 2000 Toyota Camry, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Macionus an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Accord Off Road

Motorist Mohd Abdul, 34, of West Haven was driving a 1988 Honda Accord southward on Boggs Hill Road about 10 pm November 17, when Abdul went off Boggs Hill Road near Head Of Meadow Road, police report. Abdul was not injured. Police issued Abdul an infraction ticket for driving without a driver’s license and also issued Abdul a written warning for making an improper turn.

Saturn Vs Honda

Police report a two-car accident in Botsford on Meadow Brook Road, near its intersection with South Main Street, about 8:20 am November 26.

Motorist Amy Gilchrist, 22, of Shushan, N.Y., who was driving a 2003 Saturn Ion, attempted to back up and got into a collision with motorist Frederic Stanton, 36, of 118 Huntingtown Road, who was driving a 2001 Honda Accord, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Gilchrist a written warning for unsafe backing.

Volvo Vs Truck

Police report a traffic accident on southbound South Main Street, at the traffic signal at the northern entrance of Sand Hill Plaza, at about 3:20 pm on November 21.

The crash involved motorist Eleonora Mezheritsky, 45, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2001 Volvo S-60, and tractor-trailer truck driver Donald Black, 40, of Blossom, Texas, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Mezheritsky a motor vehicle  infraction ticket for a violation.

Route 25 Accident

A two-car accident occurred on southbound Route 25 at about 10 am November 22, police said.

Motorist Henry Kurmisky, 83, of Monroe, who was driving a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis, struck the rear end of a 1998 Honda Civic driven by Rachel Manion, 21, of Milford, police said. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps checked two passengers who were traveling in the Honda, but made no transport, police said. Police issued Kurmisky an infraction ticket for following too closely.

Jacket Found

Police are seeking the owner of a “Big Smith”-brand blue canvas work jacket, which was found along South Main Street, near the Ram Pasture. Police received the item for safekeeping on December 1. The jacket bears a “Harley-Davidson Motorcycles” patch on the back. The owner should contact Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station to claim the jacket.

Sign Vandalism

Sometime during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, someone used spray paint to deface several commercial signs positioned along Turnberry Lane in Curtis Corporate Park, an industrial park off Toddy Hill Road, police said. Police are investigating the case of second degree criminal mischief and ask anyone with information about the vandalism to contact them at 426-5841.

Lexus Into Tree

Motorist Felicia Mbye, 31, of Bridgeport, was driving a 1992 Lexus ES-300 sedan westward on Wasserman Way about 6 pm November 28, when she lost control of the auto on the wet road, went off the westbound road shoulder and struck a tree, police said.

Police said Mbye was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Fence Damaged

Sometime between 7 pm on November 30 and 1 am on December 1, someone used spray paint to vandalize a fence on the corner of Castle Hill Road and Pumpkin Lane. Police are investigating the criminal mischief and ask anyone with information about the damage to contact them at 426-5841.

Warrant Served

On December 2 at Danbury Superior Court, police served a warrant against Carlos Macancela, 27, of Danbury, charging him with second degree failure to appear in court and driving while under suspension.

The original charge in the case stemmed from a July 4 motor vehicle incident on Hawleyville Road, police said. Macancela was presented in court on the charges on December 2.

Chevy Into Pole

While driving a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier northward on South Main Street about 11 pm November 29, motorist Nicole Tardiff, 19, of 17 Borough Lane lost control of the auto and struck a utility pole, guard cabling and a fence near 87 South Main Street, police said.

 Tardiff was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Lexus Vs Honda

Motorist Matthew McFadden, 18, of 9 Split Rock Road, who was driving a 2002 Honda Civic coupe, was at the end of Eden Hill Road and was waiting to make a left turn onto Hattertown Road at about 6 pm December 1, when motorist Esther Hochberg, 83, of Fairfield, who was driving a 2000 Lexus ES-300 southbound on Hattertown Road, veered to the right and collided with the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Hochberg for making a restricted turn.

Rear-Ender

Motorist Gregory Petriccione, 27, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1993 Ford Explorer southward on Commerce Road at about 8:18 am December 2, was making a left turn into the driveway at 3 Commerce Road when he was struck from behind by Travis Cassidy, 22, of Danbury, who was driving a 1986 GMC pickup truck, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Cassidy an infraction ticket for following too closely.

Warrant

On learning that the state Department of Correction in New Haven held Brian Tatroe, 18, of Waterbury in custody, Newtown police went to New Haven on December 2 and charged Tatroe with second degree failure to appear in court, speeding, and driving under suspension. The motor vehicle charges stem from a past incident.

Newtown police released Tatroe on a $250 bond for a December 18 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Accord Vs Accord

Police said they are investigating a two-car accident that occurred at the intersection of Hawleyvile Road and the Exit 9 interchange of Interstate 84 at about 4:30 pm on December 2.

The collision involved motorist Wendy Ann Hagel, 53, of Boca Raton, Fla., who was driving a 2003 Honda Accord, and motorist John Koutsoukos, 63, of Bethel, who was driving a 1993 Honda Accord, police said. There were no injuries.

Ford Vs Horse

Police report an accident involving a Ford Taurus and a stray horse at about 8:18 pm November 25 on Rolling Meadows Lane.

Motorist Megan Randlov, 20, of 14 Farm Field Ridge Road, was driving a 1999 Ford Taurus westward, when a brown quarter horse, which is owned by John Spremullo of 42 Black Bridge Road, ran onto the road from the eastbound road shoulder and collided with the driver’s side of the Ford, damaging the vehicle, police said. There were no injuries, police said.

Police said they are investigating the incident.
