Local houses of worship have announced plans for those who wish to join together to honor those killed on 12/14 and/or to continue personal healing.

Newtown Congregational Church will be open on Thursday, December 14, beginning at 9 am. The sanctuary at 14 West Street will be open for prayer, silence, music, and support.

A free session of "Yoga for the Body and Soul" will be offered at noon, in The Great Room on the church's upper level.

A Meditation Room will set up in the church library, near the lower entry, from 9 am until 5 pm, for quiet reflection. The room will have art and other items that were sent to Newtown in support of the community soon after 12/14 as a reminder of the love and care that continues to surround all of us.

An Interfaith Gathering for Prayer and Comfort will be offered Thursday, December 14, at 7 pm, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 36 Main Street. Hosted by Newtown Interfaith Council, faith leaders from the various Newtown religious communities will guide the community by reading from their sacred texts, offering prayers for the community, and allowing for times of silence for each individual to reflect and/or pray in his or her own way.

All are welcome. Parking will be available in the parking lot behind Trinity Church, which can be accessed from Church Hill Road.

St Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church is planning a Mass of Remembrance. The service will begin at 7:30 pm Thursday, and Bishop Frank Caggiano is expected to be the celebrant and homilist that evening.

Those who were killed at Sandy Hook School five years ago will also be honored during 6:45 and 9 am Masses on Thursday.

On Friday, December 15, Congregation Adath Israel will hold its annual memorial service honoring those killed on 12/14 during its Friday evening Shabbat service. The service will begin at 7:30.

Members of the community along with residents of neighboring communities are invited to join together to mourn the terrible loss and to remember the day that forever changed the lives of so many people.

The chanting of El Malei (the Mourner's Prayer) and other memorial readings will be part of the service. There will also be a reading of the names of all who lost their lives that day. Attendees will rise as a community and recite the Mourners Kaddish together.

A traditional Oneg, with refreshments, will follow the service which honors the Sabbath.
