THE NORWOOD’S SPIRIT OF AMERICA, Timonium, Md. —Exceptional and rare Vermont schoolgirl sampler, wrought by Harriet Underwood of Putney in 1831. The sampler, in pristine condition, measures 17 by 17 inches sight and documents her family record, including birth dates of both her parents and her six siblings. She captures her Federal home and grounds, flowering trees, strolling ducks and a young female leaving home, no doubt symbolic of her sister who died when she was 12 years of age. It is in a conservation-mounted frame, 191/2 by 191/2 inches.
