HIRSCHL & ADLER JACOB COLLINS: STILL LIFES w/1 cut via email

ak/gs set 5-30 #701528

NEW YORK CITY — Hirschl & Adler Modern is presenting the third solo exhibit of the work of artist Jacob Collins, on view through July 6. “Jacob Collins: Still Lifes” features more than 20 new still lifes in oil, ranging in size from 6 by 8 inches to 18 by 20 inches.

In these new paintings, Collins continues to demonstrate his mastery of and unique perspective on the still life genre. While he remains committed to the classical ideals of beauty, harmony and superior technical draftsmanship that have guided him in the past, he also offers a playful and contemporary twist on traditional still life pictures.

He invites the viewer to catch a glimpse into the personal and intimate engagement between painter and subject. The hint that the artist may have paused in the midst of painting to enjoy a piece of candy or a slice of orange adds an element of humor and immediacy to the paintings, which draws the viewer in more deeply and more personally.

This leads to a true appreciation for the artist’s carefully honed ability to create richly textured tableaus infused with life. It is his faithful devotion to making his subjects real and palpable that sets Collins apart from many of today’s artists, and established him as a leader in the field of contemporary representational art.

In addition to painting full time, Collins is the founder and director of his own private art school, The Water Street Atelier, and has recently co-founded the new Grand Central Academy in New York.

Hirschl & Adler Modern is at 21 East 70th Street. For information, 212-535-8810 or www.HirschlAndAdler.com.
