KANSAS CITY, MO. â The Midwest Sad Iron Collectors Clubâs Annual Convention will be conducted at the Hilton Kansas City Airport hotel August 8 and 9. Proceedings will include a buy/sell session plus informative presentations; members displaying irons, trivets and other laundry-related items; and a show and tell session
The convention will conclude a week of activities that will begin Monday, August 4, and include a stop at The Arabia Steamboat Museum, a Kansas City Royal baseball game, the John Wornall House Museum plus a visit to one of the local casinos.
The highlight of the preconvention activities will be the auction of the collections of Peggy and Bill Heyman and Eloise and Dick Preis on August 6 and 7, also conducted at the Hilton, 8801 NW 112th Street, by Simmons & Company Auctioneers, Inc of Richmond, Mo. The offerings comprise more than 1,100 lots and the auction will begin at 9 each morning.
The Midwest Sad Iron Collectors Club was organized exclusively for educational, fellowship and literary purposes in the personal and private collection and study by its membership of sad irons and related items. Members and guests are expected to attend from across the United States and aboard.
The club membership lists more than 300 families with members from 42 states, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, England, France, Germany, Malaysia, Netherlands, Romania, Scotland, Spain and Switzerland. Its quarterly newsletter, Pressing News, serves as an information exchange about pressing irons. In addition, many laundry-related articles, books and pamphlets may be borrowed by stateside members from the clubâs lending library.
âWhether you have a collection of 9, 90 or 900 irons you too, can share in the fellowship when club members meet at the annual convention to exchange information about their common hobby, as well as buy, sell and trade irons, trivets and other laundry related items,â said Jerry Marcus, secretary treasurer of the club.
