A handful of bell ringing opportunities have opened up for the Newtown chapter of Salvation Army, including two for tomorrow.

Despite having a full slate of bell ringers as of December 6, local Bell Ringing Campaign Co-Chairs Steve Bennett and Anna Wiedemann have received calls during the past 12 hours from people who need additional help filling their assignments. In addition, one person who was planning to work this weekend is now sick, Ms Wiedemann said Friday morning, which has opened another 60-minute slot.

As of this morning, the following openings are available:

*Saturday, December 8, at Stop & Shop, 228 South Main Street (Sand Hill Plaza), for the hours beginning at 10 am and 2 pm; and

*Friday, December 14, for the hour beginning at 7 pm. There are four locations that need bell ringers for that evening.

Individuals, couples, friends, groups of friends, families, et al are all welcome to ring a bell for one hour. Musicians are also encouraged, as are those with well-behaved dogs.

Ninety percent of all funds raised in town go toward assisting Newtown residents in need of emergency financial assistance such as purchasing fuel oil, food and paying utility bills The distribution of all funds is made through the Newtown Social Services Department and paid directly to vendors.

Contact Anna Wiedemann at aroosterw@yahoo.com or 203-417-3004 to volunteer.
