Air National Guard Band To Offer

Pre-Independence Day Concert At NHS

The Air National Guard Band of the Northeast is a 37-member squadron attached to Massachusetts State Headquarters. The band is supported by the 104th Fighter Wing at Barnes Air National Guard Base but physically located at Massachusetts National Guard Headquarters in Milford, Mass.

The band will be in Newtown on Sunday, July 3, to offer a free concert at Newtown High School, 12 Berkshire Road.

The concert, called “Americans We,” will begin at 6:30 pm. The program will include a performance of the title piece by Henry Fillmore, along with works of John Williams, Camille Saint-Saëns, Russell Alexander and Robert Jaeger, among others.

Soloists for Sunday evening will include Senior Airman Elizabeth Hobson on horns and Robert Sheldon on metroplex during the performance of Saint-Saëns’s Morceau de Concert; and Anthony Nunes on trumpet during La Virgen de la Macarena, as arranged by Charles Koff. Mr Nunes is a former conductor of Danbury-based Sons of Portugal Band, who is co-sponsoring the concert with Union Savings Bank and The News-Times.

The Air National Guard Band of the Northeast, comprised of professional airmen, supports the Air Force mission, core values, and promotes patriotism and the American way of life throughout military and civilian communities in New England and eastern New York. The Band of the Northeast provides musical support for military ceremonies, functions, and enhances troop morale. The band develops and maintains positive military relations and increases military awareness throughout the civilian community.
