To the Editor:

The wonderful outpouring of support for the 38th annual book sale to benefit the C.H. Booth Library has insured once again that the Friends of the C.H. Booth Library can fulfill its mission of generously funding the acquisitions, programs, and enhancements in library service we residents of Newtown so enjoy and expect. The large cadre of devoted and indefatigable book sale volunteers deserve our deep thanks for sustaining this perennially successful town event.

The close working relationship between the Friends, and town and school officials, as exemplified by our return to the Reed Intermediate School this year, has always impressed the patrons — local and out-of-town — of the book sale. Selectman Pat Llodra has been our guardian angel, and her staff and the town departments and agencies under her direction were again enthusiastic partners in this endeavor. James Gaston (Warden of the Borough); Janet Woycik and Shawn Fields (library directors); and the staff and Board of Trustees of the library provided immense aid. The school district (Dr. Linda Gejda), Reed school (Ms. Anne Uberti, and the office and custodial staff, particularly Ron and Rich), Newtown High School (Kitty Latowicki, Gregg Simon, and coaches Susan Bridges — Cheerleaders, Amanda Hadgraft — Field Hockey, and Marc Kenney — Girls’ Soccer), and Chartwell continue to be indispensable partners in the success of the book sale.

We truly appreciate the generosity of the following local and regional businesses: Armstrong Movers (Ivan Elhag), Associated Refuse Haulers (Pat Caruso), Bagel Delight (Eunice Laverty), Big Y, BJ’s, Butcher’s Best, Caraluzzi’s Market, Carminuccio’s Pizza, Cherries Cupcakes, Costco, Crystal Rock, DOrazio Sisters, Dunkin’ Donuts (Jeff Dymerski), Franco’s, McKinney Communications (Dana McKinney), Newtown Savings Bank, People’s United Bank, Pudelz Tee Shirts (Jane Hellman), A Sign Depot, Stew Leonard’s, Trader Joe’s, World of Wine & Spirits (Jeff Oetjen), and Yankee Discount Wines & Liquors (Steve Small). Boy Scout Troop 70 again sponsored a food tent on Saturday and Sunday, for the convenience of the book sale patrons and many volunteers.

Last, but not least, we extend our thanks to all the people who donated the books, CDs, DVDs, LPs, etc. that were offered at the book sale. Keep those donations coming! The 39th annual summer book sale is already on the drawing boards.

Sincerely,

Denise A. Kaiser, 2013 Book Sale Chairwoman

on behalf of the Board of Directors, Friends of the C.H. Booth Library
