Andrew Charney died peacefully at his home in Southbury, Monday, December 30, surrounded by his loving family, after a short illness. He was the beloved husband of Doris Wildman Charney for 69 years. He was born in Monroe, August 1, 1921, son of Michael and Veronica Lasko Charney. 

He loved his home of 65 years in Shady Rest section of Sandy Hook, where he enjoyed working outside and taking pride in his lawn and garden. He loved sitting on his porch with his wife after a hard day’s work.

In 1955, he and his brother Johnny established the Charney Bros excavation company. When his brother retired in 1980, Mr Charney became partners with his son David, who had been working with them since 1973. After retiring in 1990, Mr Charney would continue to help his son on jobs, well into his 80s.

He leaves his devoted wife, Doris. He was a loving father to his daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Ray Bresson, with whom he made his home for the last two years in Southbury; and his son, Andrew “David” Charney of Monroe. His two granddaughters, their husbands, and two great-grandchildren thought of Mr Charney as the best grandfather. He also leaves his sister, Irene Lane; and in-laws, Charles Ahearn, Laura, Betty, and Lou Wildman; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Seasons Hospice of Naugatuck, especially Sonia and Nicholle, for their wonderful care.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, January 4, at 11 am, at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 am until the time of the service. Burial will be at a later date.
