The Newtown Marching Band and Guard’s Tenth Annual 100 Family Tag Sale will take place on Saturday, September 22, from 9 am to 2 pm, at the main cafeteria and patio of the high school, 12 Berkshire Road.

The tag sale is a fundraiser for the Marching Band and Guard. Every year, thousands of items are donated at the group’s Junk in the Trunk night, held the evening before, in order to help support the band and guard program.

Residents are invited to this year’s Junk in the Trunk night to donate items on Friday, September 21, from 6 pm to 8:45 pm, at the NHS main cafeteria patio. There will be drop-off signs, and band and guard members will unload the donations. Mattresses, pillows, and stained items will not be accepted.

The tag sale will fill the entire NHS cafeteria and will be organized by category. Categories will include housewares, holiday items, sporting goods, electronics, clothes, toys, baby items, books and media, office supplies, furniture, bikes, and more. Items will be priced to sell.

Newtown’s 2018 band and guard ensemble is comprised of 71 band members and 19 guard members.

On Saturday, September 15, the group performed their show, “The Climb,” at the USBands competition at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk. The judges awarded them a score of 83.80 in the Group IV Open division, giving them the second highest score overall across all divisions. (Trumbull scored 84.0).

The next USBands competition will be held on Saturday, September 22, at New Milford High School, following the tag sale fundraiser.

The NHS Band and Guard will also perform and host local competitive bands at its annual Joseph P. Grasso Marching Band Festival home show on Saturday, September 29, at the Blue & Gold Stadium, 12 Berkshire Road. Gates open at 5 pm. Performances will begin at 5:55 pm and last approximately three hours. The cash-only entrance fee is $12 for adults, $7 for seniors/students/student alumni, and those under 5 years old are free to attend. Food, merchandise, and baked goods will be available for purchase.

Members of the Newtown High School Marching Band and Guard pose with signs to announce the 100 Family Tag Sale fundraiser. The event will be held September 22 at NHS, from 9 am to 2 pm.
