AP — NEW CHARGES FILED AGAINST WOMAN ACCUSED OF CONNECTICUT ART THEFTS

AVV 2-18 #729218

SOUTHBURY, CONN. (AP) — Authorities say a treasured painting stolen last fall from a Jewish community center in Southbury has been recovered from a woman accused in several art thefts.

An official with the Walzer Family Jewish Community Center says the painting has great sentimental value, and that its disappearance upset many of the members.

Police say they charged 52-year-old Diane Catalani of Waterbury with larceny this week after finding the oil landscape in her possession.

She already faces charges in connection with the theft of more than 150 pieces of artwork from churches, historical societies, museums, libraries and schools.

The painting stolen from the Southbury center was donated by Dr Harry Blum, a painter and physician who died in 2004 at the age of 105.

Catalani is being held on a $1.21 million bond at the York Correctional Institution in Niantic,
