Arthur Richard Hoyt, Jr, 87, died peacefully, April 12. He was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to Katherine (Tillman) and Arthur Hoyt.

His beloved wife Rose Hoyt, with whom he shared 65 wonderful years of marriage, survives Mr Hoyt. In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his loving children and their spouses, Ray and Betsy Hoyt of Sandy Hook, Michael and Diane Hoyt of New Milford, and Jeanne Hoyt-Kozenieski and her husband Peter, of Southbury; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. His siblings, Giles, Lillian, and Florence, predeceased Mr Hoyt.

Mr Hoyt actively served for the United States Coast Guard during World War II. He was a resident of Redding for 33 years and worked as a foreman for the Bridgeport Hydraulic Company. The Hoyts later retired to Hemlock Farms, Penn.

He enjoyed fishing and boating, along with many nights relaxing in his favorite chair outside, while taking in the sights and sounds of the beautiful nature that he loved so much. He had a love for animals, especially for a stray cat that they took in and affectionately named Pumpkin. He was known as “The Mayor” wherever he lived, and had a heart of gold that touched everyone he met.

A Celebration of Life will take place Thursday, April 18, at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. Friends may call from 10 to 11 am, with a service to follow. A private burial will take place in Redding.
