Audubon Bird Watching Day Trip & Insect Walk

SOUTHBURY — Audubon Center at Bent of the River will host two free programs this month, including a day trip to a stopover location for migrating shorebirds.

On Saturday, August 11, Audubon Center manager John Longstreth will lead a bird watching trip to Jamaica Bay Refuge, an area of tidal marshes and brackish pools located near Kennedy Airport. Anyone interested is asked to call the center, and then plan to be at the I-84 Exit 14 commuter lot no later than 7:30 am Saturday morning.

On Wednesday, August 15, Donna Rose Manwaring will lead an insect walk at the center. Participants will look for insects, bugs, spiders and other cool critters in the fields and meadows of the Audubon Center. This program will begin at 2 pm and will start from the visitors’ parking lot.

Audubon Center at Bent of the River is at 185 East Flat Hill Road, off Route 172 in the South Britain section of Southbury. Call 264-5098 to register for these programs, to learn of other upcoming programs, or for other information.
