Authority Seeks Logo

For Fairfield Hills

By Kendra Bobowick

Fairfield Hills Authority members are seeking a little artistic flair from the public. They are looking specifically for a logo to use in signs and printed materials used for official purposes. A recent flyer states, “We would very much like to tap the talent in Newtown…so we are asking you, the Newtown High School art students, and local graphic artists to participate…tap into your creativity.”

A logo competition recently opened to the public reinforces one vital detail about the former state hospital campus now under redevelopment.

“It does belong to the people,” authority member Amy Dent stressed. The competition is meant to be an “inclusive” event, she said. “So people feel a part of it.”

Among the series of suggestions regarding what sentiment the logo should reflect, one thought stands out. One of five bullet points on the flyer states, “Something that depicts the recreational, municipal, private uses, etc. intended for the property.” Other ideas expressed by some authority members are asking for “something that depicts renewal (the phoenix),” “something that might honor the past citizens of the hospital,” “something consistent with our existing town logos which usually include the rooster on the Meeting House, the flag pole, or combination of both.”

The flyer also indicates that some suggestions may conflict, “but any one, or none of these can be used as a starting point.” With one last reminder to those interested in submitting an entry for the competition, the flyer indicates, “Remember the point of this is to create a logo, so the depiction of a viable concept is most important.”

Entries will be accepted through June 30. Mail entries to Fairfield Hills Authority, 28 Trades Lane, Newtown CT 06470. Ms Dent is hoping for hard copies, and “something to look at.”
