Barbra Jean (Preteska) O'Neill, 78, of Sandy Hook, died April 20, with her family beside her in Bridgeport Hospital. She was the wife of the late Edward C. O'Neill. She was born in Swoyersville, Penn., on November 13, 1939, daughter of the late Helen (Kapral) Preteska.

She grew up in Bridgeport and attended Harding High School. A 50-year resident of Sandy Hook, Mrs O'Neill retired from Vitramon in Monroe. She loved her family, baking, and cooking. Her specialties were her pierogies and nut rolls. Her loved ones say her chihuahua will miss her.

Her two sons, Edward J. O'Neill and Kevin J. O'Neill and his wife Betsy; a brother, Edward "Red" Preteska and his wife Marie; grandsons, Matthew Marshall, Matthew Trager, and Reilly O'Neill; and several nieces and nephews survive her.

Her son, Brian J. O'Neill, and her brother, Richard Preteska, predeceased her.

Funeral services and interment in Resurrection Cemetery will be private.

Arrangements are in care of the Honan Funeral Home, Newtown.
