Bernard McCutchan

Bernard G. McCutchan, 95, of Sandy Hook died peacefully August 29, at his home. He was born in Weston, W.Va., on June 22, 1922, a son of the late Sarah (Blagg) and George McCutchan.

Mr McCutchan was raised in Weston and was a graduate of Weston High School. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II as a bombardier in the European Theatre of Operations and was awarded five bronze stars over two Silver Oak Leaf Clusters.

In 1966, he moved to Sandy Hook and was employed by Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford. Mr McCutchan retired as a welder from Unimation in Danbury.

His children and their spouses, Fran McCutchan of Sandy Hook, Charles and Pam McCutchan of Mooresville, N.C., Robert and Joyce McCutchan of Winfield, W.Va., and William and Anne McCutchan of Southbury; 11 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren survive him.

His wife of 52 years, Mary Jarvis McCutchan; his oldest son, George McCutcheon; two brothers, Glen and Paul McCutchan; and three sisters, Jean Droppleman, Pauline Wade, and Bernardine Flesher, predeceased him.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, September 3, at 11 am, in the Churchville United Methodist Church, 1716 US Highway 33 West, Weston, WV. Interment in McCutchan Liberty Cemetery, Stear Run, W.Va., will be at the convenience of the family.
