Bernard P. Karcheski, Jr

Bernard P. Karcheski, Jr, 60, of Torrington, died May 15, in Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. He was born in Bridgeport, January 15, 1953, a son of Isabelle (Carneka) and Bernard P. Karcheski.

Mr Karcheski grew up in Newtown and was a graduate of Newtown High School Class of 1971 and the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, N.Y. He later moved to New Jersey where he owned a car dealership and was a building contractor. Most recently he resided in Torrington and was retired.

He was a member of the Sierra Club and had served in the past as a lobbyist in Washington, D.C. He enjoyed the outdoors and traveling to Europe, Asia, and Australia. He played the clarinet.

Two sisters, Dr Marilyn Schmidt of San Diego, Calif., and Dr Dorothy Karcheski of Holbrook, Ariz.; an uncle, Stanley Karcheski of Brookfield; an aunt, Helen Chubat of Seymour; and several cousins survive Mr Karcheski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown, Thursday, May 30, at 10 am. Interment will follow in St Rose Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Arrangements are in care of the Honan Funeral Home, Newtown.
