Bombardiers Fly To The Top, Bring Down Black Knights For Baseball Title

The All State Insurance Bombardiers defeated the Ingersoll Auto of Danbury Black Knights 6-4 to win Newtown’s 10 year old baseball title this past week.

The Bombardiers used a pivotal third inning rally to score four runs in a tightly-played matchup. The Bombardiers added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to seal their championship run.

Robert DiSibio lead off the game with a double and timely offense was provided by Cole Demirjian, Derrick Lewis, Tim Davis, and Ryan Burns. Aggressive base running by Liam Deakin and Jack Dooley contributed to the offensive charge.

Consistent defense was provided by Luke Sansonetti, Ben Drew, Alex Katsuleres, and Sean Connor helping to douse potential late-inning rallies. Throughout the playoffs, the Bombardiers’ pitching depth proved to be the difference. Derrik Lewis, Ryan Burns, Robert DiSibio, and Cole Demirjian kept opponents at bay with Tim Davis waiting in the bullpen to help close out the games.

The Bombardiers put together a three-game run of timely hitting, consistent defense, and clutch pitching to earn the title. They won two games, as follows, to advance to the title game:

Bombardiers 6, Sugar Hill Auto Orange Crush 4: The Bombardiers used a fifth inning rally to come from behind. Five runs in the fifth and an insurance run in the sixth sealed the victory. Leading the offense was Derrick Lewis, Tim Davis, Ryan Burns and Luke Sansonetti. Pitching proved to be critical throughout the entire playoff run. Derrick Lewis, Cole Demirjian and Robert DiSibio kept the Bombardiers in the game yielding only one earned run. Supporting the pitching with steady defense were Alex Katsuleres, Jack Dooley, Liam Deakin, Ben Drew, and Sean Connor.

Bombardiers 6, Ferro Financial Green Machine 3: The Bombardiers jumped to a quick 2-0 lead in the top half of the first inning of the semifinal match-up. However, that lead was short-lived when Kyle Roche hit a towering homer to deep center field in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game for the Ferro Financial Green Machine. The Bombardier pitching rotation of Ryan Burns, Robert DiSibio and Cole Demirjian  remained unnerved in giving up only one additional run in the remaining five innings. DiSibio, Demirjian and Derrick Lewis, with a timely double, led the offense. The Bombardiers played errorless defense throughout the game. The steady glove work of Sean Connor, Ben Drew, Luke Sansonetti, Alex Katsuleres, Liam Deakin, and Tim Davis helped seal the victory.

The Green Machine was led by Tim Shaw who pitched two scoreless innings supported by Jack Swanson, Jack Oltran, and Michael Narducci on defense. Brandon Giglio made the defensive play of the game with a tremendous grab at second and threw out the runner at first. Bobby Ward had a great catch at third as well. Tyler Trede and Luke Loudon battled at the plate. The team missed Eli Holmes for the game and Sean McCleary who was out for half of the season with a broken wrist.
