Botsford DUI

Police report that while they were driving northbound on South Main Street early on the morning of September 28, they spotted motorist Lawrence Isler, 20, of 32 Bonnie Brae Drive, who had been driving westbound on Botsford Hill Road, drive through a red traffic signal at the intersection of Botsford Hill Road and South Main Street and enter westbound Meadowbrook Road.

Police said they stopped Isler on westbound Meadowbrook Road and performed sobriety tests on him, which he failed. Police charged Isler with driving under the influence, failure to obey a traffic signal, and possession of less than four ounces of marijuana.

After processing, police released Isler for an October 11 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Three-Vehicle Crash

Police report that while driving southbound on South Main Street, near the Citgo service station, about 6:30 am September 27, motorist Robert Jordan, 32, of Axis, Ala., who was driving a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup truck, was unable to stop in time, and struck the rear end of a southbound 1989 Pontiac coupe, which was stopped for traffic. Motorist Arturo Lopez Rangel, 29, of Southbury was driving the 1989 Pontiac, police said.

The impact of that crash pushed the 1989 Pontiac coupe into the rear end of a stopped southbound 1997 Pontiac sedan driven by James Benjamin, 31, of Danbury, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Benjamin and Rangel to Danbury Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Police issued Jordan an infraction ticket for following too closely. Police issued Rangel an infraction ticket for failure to obtain a Connecticut driver’s license.

Stop Sign Crash

On either September 21 or 22, some motorist drove into a stop sign at the intersection of Swamp Road and South Main Street, damaging the sign.

Police ask anyone with information about who drove into that sign and damaged it, constituting a case of evading responsibility, to contact them.

Botsford Accident

Police said motorist Roxana Madar, 27 of Woodside N.Y., was driving a 1999 GMC Yukon sport-utility vehicle northbound on Botsford Hill Road about 6:15 pm September 29, when, as she traveled under the Housatonic Railroad overpass, she hit a patch of sand and then skidded into the woods along the road’s northbound shoulder.

Police said Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps staffers checked Madar for chest and knee pain at the scene. Police issued Madar a written warning for making an improper turn.

Window Vandalism

Sometime during the night of September 26-27 someone broke the front windows of Newtown Convenience and Newtown Florist. Both businesses are in the same building at 22 Church Hill Road. They are across the street from Hawley School.

The vandalism caused approximately $1,000 in repair costs, police said. It appears the damage was caused by a slingshot. Police are investigating.

Saab Damage

Police said motorist Benjamin Kugielsky of Bridal Path Trail left a 1989 Saab auto parked unattended in a driveway at 19 Riverside Road on September 23. There was a white Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck parked next to the Saab, police said.

When Kugielsky returned to his parked Saab, the pickup truck was gone and there was a dent in the Saab. Police are investigating the case of evading responsibility.

Taunton Hill Deer

Motorist Joeline Spivack Wruck, 40, of 6 Fairchild Drive was driving a 1990 Toyota Camry northbound on Taunton Hill Road just north of Karen Boulevard about 7:30 pm September 28, when a deer ran in front of the Toyota, police said. The Toyota struck the deer, killing it. Wruck was not injured, police added. There was no enforcement action.

Alberts Hill Collision

Motorist Peter Antonicki, 50, of Southbury was driving a 1989 Jeep Wrangler sport-utility vehicle on Alberts Hill Road on the morning of September 23, when while attempting to park along the road shoulder, he struck a parked vacant 1995 Hyundai auto, police said. Antonicki was not injured. Police issued Antonicki a written warning for making an improper turn.

South Main Crash

Motorist George Silver, 48, of 24 Cedar Hill Road was driving a 1992 Saturn SL-2 northbound on South Main Street about 4:45 pm September 28, when he stopped in traffic in preparation to turn left onto Cedar Hill Road, police said.

Northbound motorist Jose Galupa, 22, of Bethel, who was driving a 1991 Plymouth Laser, skidded on wet pavement and struck the rear end of the Saturn, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Galupa for following too closely.

Flagpole Accident

 Motorist Reinoso Anquisaca, 31, of Danbury, who was driving a 1989 Peugeot 505 about 9:30 am September 29, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road and did not come to a full stop on entering Church Hill Road’s intersection with Main Street at the flagpole, police said.

The Peugeot struck the passenger side of a 1999 Jeep Wrangler sport utility vehicle being driven northbound on Main Street by Jerry Peterson, 43, of 2 Elizabeth Street, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Anquisaca an infraction ticket on a stop sign violation.

U-Turn

 Police report that motorist Myrna L. Nickel, 66, of Darien, who was driving a 1991 Acura Integra westbound on Mile Hill Road, became lost about 9 pm September 28 and pulled over onto the road shoulder.

Nickel then attempted to make a U-turn in front of motorist Kimberly Miner, 17, of 1 Sweet Meadow Road, who was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Camaro, resulting in a collision, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Nickel a written warning for making a U-turn.

Three-Car Crash

Police report a three-vehicle accident on southbound South Main Street about 4:30 pm September 28.

Police said southbound motorist Edward Lipski, 46, of Milford, who was driving a 1992 Plymouth station wagon, stopped in traffic, waiting for a southbound vehicle to turn left into a store’s driveway.

Southbound motorist Harold Rinko, 59, of Hallstead, Penn., who was driving a 1997 Jeep Cherokee, stopped behind the Plymouth, police said.

Southbound motorist Lisa Culbert, 21 of Monroe, who was driving a 1996 Mitsubishi Galant, skidded on the wet road and struck the rear end of the Jeep, pushing the Jeep into the rear end of the Plymouth, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Culbert an infraction ticket for following too closely.

 

Warrant Served

Police said they served a rearrest warrant against Mandy Mulligan, 21, of 160 Mt Pleasant Road about 8:20 pm October 1, listing charges of failure to appear in court and creating a public disturbance. The disturbance charge stems from a July 11 incident.

After processing, police released Mulligan on a $200 bond for an October 11 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Sleeping Bag

Police said September 29 that a person had found a sleeping bag in Upper Paugussett State Forest, off Alberts Hill Road. Police ask the owner to claim the bag at the police station.

Church Hill DUI

Police report they saw motorist Ian S. Breyer, 28, of Stratford driving eastbound on Church Hill Road about 11:30 pm October 2 without having his headlights illuminated.

Police said they stopped Breyer and performed field sobriety tests, which he failed. Breyer was charged with driving under the influence and driving without illuminated headlamps.

After processing, police released Breyer on a $100 bond for an October 18 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Sports Car Vs Deer

Police report motorist Dennis Adler, 56, of 33 Sugar Street was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Corvette eastbound on Mt Pleasant Road and approaching Taunton Lake Road about 10:30 pm October 1, when the sports car collided with a deer that had entered the road. Adler was not injured. The auto received some damage in the mishap, police said

Hattertown Accident

Police report motorist Denise A. Myslewski, 46, of 9 Putnam Drive was driving a 1999 Honda CRV northbound on Hattertown Road near Boggs Hill Road about 3:30 pm September 29, when she lost control of the vehicle and struck two wooden posts along the northbound road shoulder.

Neither Ms Myslewski, nor a passenger, were injured, police said. Police verbally warned Ms Myslewski for making a restricted turn.

Bennetts Bridge DUI

Police said motorist John A. Tomlinson, 48, of Danbury was driving a 1995 Ford F-150 pickup truck on Bennetts Bridge Road just behind a 1995 Ford Taurus driven by Byron C. Brown, 82, of Orange at about 2:30 pm on October 3.

A flagman signaled the vehicles to stop for road construction work, police said.

But Tomlinson was unable to stop in time, and struck the rear end of the Taurus, police said. There were no injuries. There was a passenger in the Taurus.

Police said that on investigating the accident, they smelled alcohol on Tomlinson’s breath and gave him field sobriety tests, which he failed.

Police charged Tomlinson with driving under the influence, following too closely, and failure to carry automotive insurance. Police released Tomlinson on bond for an appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.
