Newtown High School's boys' soccer team, led by first-year coaches Charley Amblo and Justin Stevens, was selected by the Western Connecticut Soccer Officials Association as the winner of the Robert Stirling Sportsmanship Award.

The recognition is given to a soccer program that displays exceptional sportsmanship throughout most of Western Connecticut. The award will be presented at the association's annual banquet, at the Aria in Prospect, on November 19.

The Nighthawks, in addition to being good sports, went 8-5-3 during the regular season before advancing to the South-West Conference tournament semifinals and competing in the Class LL state tourney.
