Business name: A Stitch In Time

Address: 10 Stony Hill Road, Bethel

Owner: Eva Donnelly

Business background: A Stitch In Time has been the local source of all things needlepoint and cross-stitch for the past 16 years.

After originally learning how to do needlework as a child with her grandmother, Ms Donnelly rediscovered her love of stitching when she became a stay-at-home mom.

With no convenient way to get her supplies, she was inspired to open A Stitch In Time to bring a much-needed resource to the area.

As her business grew, she eventually expanded her products to also include a diverse selection of yarns.

Having previously been located at 276 Greenwood Avenue in Bethel, A Stitch In Time moved to its new location on Stony Hill Road on July 5.

The new address now allows the needlepoint community easy access on and off Route 6 when visiting the shop.

Business focus: "We sell everything you need for knitting and needlepoint. We have your canvas and your threads, everything to go with it," Ms Donnelly said, describing the knitting, crochet, and needlepoint supplies and accessories available at her store.

A Stitch In Time is a welcoming place for beginners to start a new hobby and for seasoned needle pointers to hone their craft.

There are teachers and free workshops onsite that can help all types of thread and yarn enthusiasts practice their work.

Those looking to research more on specific subjects can enjoy the variety of topical books available in the store, too.

New items arrive weekly and supplies at A Stitch In Time can be mail ordered for convenience.

"If there is something you need for knitting and stitching, we have it," Ms Donnelly said.

Important to know: The environment and people at A Stitch In Time are what make the business stand out among the rest.

The full-service shop centers around the friendliness of its employees and patrons, making it an enjoyable experience for those who stop by.

Ms Donnelly says that people can feel comfortable walking around and knowing that if they ever need assistance there is someone knowledgeable there to help them.

Near future promotions, events, seasonal specials: A Stitch In Time participates in a great deal of charity work throughout the year.

Right now, Ms Donnelly says, they are looking forward to supporting the Knitted Knockers organization, which promotes breast cancer awareness by supplying handmade breast prosthesis for women who have undergone procedures to the breast like mastectomies. During the month of October, A Stitch In Time will be collecting knitted knockers to donate to those in need.

There are also many classes and workshops that take place regularly at A Stitch In Time. People can attend them by signing up to be on the e-mail list, which can be accessed through the website, and register there.

One of the next upcoming classes will be on crochet socks on Saturday, October 14.

There are also less structured social gatherings. A Stitch In Time's popular Thursday Night Knitters meet for "Social Knitting" every week from 6 to 8 pm. There is no instructor, but friends are invited to work at the store's front table and chat with others throughout the night.

Hours: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 10 am to 5 pm; Thursdays, from 10 am to 8 pm; Saturdays, from 10 am to 4 pm; and closed Sundays.
