Carol Alexander McDonald, 93, of Southbury, formerly a longtime resident of Ridgefield, died September 4. She was born April 21, 1925, in Stamford, the daughter of Susan and Charles Alexander.

Her children and their spouses, Robert and Diane McDonald of Newtown; Mary Jo and Anthony Schimaneck of Lancaster, Penn.; Peter and Nannette McDonald of Salem, W.Va.; Thomas and Irene McDonald of North Granby; Elizabeth and John Demeyer of Southbury; and Emily Wilcox of Arnold, Md.; her 19 grandchildren, and her 18 great-grandchildren survive her. She is also survived by sisters, Catherine Alexander of Yelm, Wash., and Patricia Condon of Punta Gorda, Fla.

Her husband of 68 years, Robert, predeceased her on June 20, 2018. She is also predeceased by two sisters, Susan Hutchinson and Mary Jo Goff.

Mrs McDonald was a graduate of Darien High School and attended Indiana University before returning to Connecticut to work as a lathe operator during the war.

She dedicated her life to raising six children and supporting her husband in his business endeavors. After raising her family and caring for elderly relatives, Mrs McDonald worked at a flower shop and then continued her career as a receptionist in the dental offices of Dr Benusis and Dr Norkin in Danbury, where she retired after 25 years.

Mrs McDonald was known as an exceptional seamstress, making her own clothes for many years. She shared her love of golf with her husband. She was an avid gardener and an accomplished flower arranger. Among her wide range of interests were bridge, the arts, and traveling throughout the world.

A memorial service will take place September 8, from 3 to 5 pm, at the Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main Street North, Southbury. Eulogies will be given at 4:30 pm.
