Catherine Hodgens

Catherine Corcoran Hodgens, of Richmond, Va., originally from Brooklyn, N.Y., passed away peacefully on January 11, 2019, at the Hermitage in Richmond. Born to John F. Corcoran and Catherine Lanning Corcoran in 1931, she was the youngest of their ten children.

She proudly graduated from Fontbonne Academy and attended Brooklyn College. She retired to Richmond in 1987 and was a member of St Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, The Catholic Women’s Club, The Eucharistic Adoration Society at the Benedictine Abbey, The Association of Jeanne Jugan of the Little Sisters of the Poor, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the VFW.

She was a good mother and a loving nana. She is survived by her two daughters, Cori Pagnini McNerney and husband, Kevin, of Newtown, and Jennifer Hodgens Haynes and husband, Craig; caring daughter-in-law, Janice Flanagan Pagnini; step-daughter, Mary Lou Torres; grandchildren, Kyle and Dawn McNerney, Jillian Pagnini and Ken Schoenhofen, Caitlyn McNerney and Jake Pinkston, Elise Pagnini and Mike Lepler, Rebecca Pagnini and Sarah Pagnini, and Olivia Haynes; step-grandson, Adam Torres; six great-grandchildren, who knew her as “Grand Nana,” Logan and Kendall McNerney, Declan Arthur and Owen Robert Schoenhofen, Collin Arthur Lepler, and James Conyers Pinkston VI; her friend and first husband, Arthur J. Pagnini; her “Aunt Cat” Corcoran; nieces; and nephews.

Those that she loved and preceded her in death were son, Arthur “Chip” Pagnini; daughter, Joyce Catherine Pagnini; husbands, Arthur C. Durr and Austin M. Hodgens, Sr; parents, John F. Corcoran and Catherine Lanning Corcoran; brothers, John, James, George, Eugene, Joseph, Harry J., and Richard; and sisters, Elizabeth Muriel and Winifred. They are preparing a warm welcome for her in heaven.

Her family sincerely thanks the women at The Hermitage who always treated her with kindness and dignity and were always of great comfort to her and her family.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 14, 2019, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm, at Bliley’s, 8510 Staples Mill Road, Richmond, Va. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at 10 am, at St Ann’s Roman Catholic Church in Ashland, Va. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at St Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, St Joseph’s Home, 1503 Michael’s Road, Richmond VA 23229.
