Due to a number of hike and destination changes this season for Newtown Hikers, hike coordinator Sally Cox has issued an updated schedule for the next few weeks.

The next five hikes are as follows:

November 3, Silver Sands Beach in Milford (hike leader Molly Schleis, 203-616-5950), which is a change from the originally scheduled hike that day in Washington Depot, taking place instead on November 17;

November 10, Bear Mountain/Appalachian Trail in Salisbury, to be led by Ms Cox (updating a listing that had only been set as TBA);

November 17, Hidden Valley Preserve in Washington Depot (hike leader Linda Dunn, 203-207-1765);

November 24, Whittemore Sanctuary in Woodbury (also led by Linda Dunn, updating another TBA listing).

The remainder of the season will continue as originally announced:

December 1, Topstone Park in Redding, with hike leader Irene Jutnas (203-556-2933); and

December 8, Bennett’s Pond Trail in Ridgefield, led by Mark Jones (203-892-9534).

There is no fee to participate in hikes. Those planning to join the group should meet in the lower rear parking lot of Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, by 9 am.

Hikers participate at their own risk and must sign a release for the Parks & Recreation Department. For additional information about each hike, call the listed leader.

The group tries to carpool as much as possible. To meet the group at a different point or if weather is doubtful the morning of a planned event, call the listed leader.

All hikes are moderate and last three to five hours, plus driving time, unless otherwise stated. Children are welcome if accompanied by adults. Participants should bring a lunch and beverages. Sturdy shoes or boots are recommended. Dress for the weather; layers are suggested.

For further information contact Sally Cox at 203-426-9903 or newtownhikers@gmail.com, or Parks & Rec at 203-270-4340.
