Charles Natale Cannato, Sr

Fun-loving And Witty

Charles Natale Cannato, 86, of Southbury, and formerly of Harwich, Mass., and Valhalla, N.Y., died April 18. He was born on the Fourth of July, 1924, in White Plains, N.Y., the son of Antoinette (Minasi) and Vincent Joseph Cannato.

His wife, Lee; four children and their spouses, including Christine and Ralph Sgammato and Vincent and Darlene Cannato of Newtown; eight loving grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister survive Mr Cannato.

He left school in White Plains during the Depression years to work to help his family. Mr Cannato enlisted in the US Marine Corps during World War II, graduating with honors from aerial gunner training. He served honorably with the Marine Bombing Squad VMB-613 in the South Pacific.

He married Fedela “Lee” Ranieri in 1947 and settled in White Plains, and then Valhalla. In 1955 Mr Cannato opened County Resilient Floor Co in Pleasantville, N.Y., and worked until his retirement in 1988.

He and his wife enjoyed golf, Frank Sinatra, family and friends.

They moved from Cape Cod to Southbury to be closer to family. He most wanted to get his high school diploma, and in 2008, at the age of 84, he did so.
