Cheer Squad Second In State Championships

In an impressive postseason follow-up to their South-West Conference championship Newtown High School’s cheerleading team placed second in the state championship competition, at Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven, on March 3.

Danbury won the title with a score of 177.7. Newtown had a score of 171.20 to edge Staples of Westport (169.9) for the runner-up spot. Shelton, with 168.6, was fourth. 

Members of the team, coached by Susan Bridges, are: Seniors Julia Sullivan, Heidi Alvarez, Brianna Giglio, and Isabella Morganti; junior Nicole Shairer; sophomores Caroline Tousignant, Emi Rosenthal, Tori Duarte, Gina Lewis, Danielle Vigneau, Allie Luby, Emily Hammond, and Julia Pellicone; and freshmen Julia Calabrese, Bridget Lovely, Annie Phelps, Vicky Chop, and Lauren Milligan.
