Newtown High School's cheerleading team placed third among 16 squads in the Class LL state championship competition, at Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven, on March 4.

The Nighthawks flipped, tumbled, danced, and cheered to a point total of 183, narrowly edging Danbury, which tallied 182.9.

Shelton won the title with a score of 187.4, and Fairfield Ludlowe was second with a total of 183.8. Fairfield Warde rounded out the top five with a score of 167.
