The Children’s Adventure Center (CAC) Preschool is planning a communitywide open house on Saturday, April 27, to showcase a newly restored playground and new Sunshine Room. The event will run from 11 am until 2 pm, rain or shine.

CAC is promoting “a get to know us” event, with families invited to enjoy horseback rides, watch a puppet show, sing and dance to fun music, and enjoy all of the fun playground activities. Lots of parking is available, and a nutritious lunch will be served for everyone.

The preschool is at 14 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook.

CAC is Newtown’s original preschool, crated by parents and community groups to provide excellence in preschool education in an enriching, enjoyable environment designed for the development of the whole child. The first child was accepted in 1969 in a renovated antique barn in Sandy Hook with the hopes of becoming a town tradition.

Over the next 40 years, the school grew and developed, acquired many citations and awards, and now has an enrollment of more than 60 children. Most students move on to the Newtown Public School System and reap the benefits of an enriching early childhood experience.

By 1976, CAC had a new building and was providing an even more comprehensive preschool program, including a breakfast and lunch program with its own cook. Comprehensive field trips expanded with a new curriculum, providing new and exciting educational insights.

CAC is  staffed with early childhood professionals and is licensed by the Connecticut State Department of Health, accredited by National Association for the Education of Young Children, the Connecticut State Department of Social Services, and the Connecticut State Department of Education,  is a delegate agency of the Town of Newtown, and has a 501(c)(3) designation and an elected board of directors.

The most recent accolade is Top Rated Pre-School by NAEYC (National  Association for the Education of Young Children), awarded to very few schools nationally.

The April 27 open house will showcase CAC’s new professionally designed playground, which concentrates on many  new sports skills as well as exercising with small and large motor skills. The open house will also showcase the new addition — The Sunshine Room — the closest thing to being in the “sunshine” on a rainy day. The Sunshine Room currently houses an art studio for up-and-coming famous artists, their supplies, and some of their work, as well as artwork from Newtown notables.
