The Candlewood Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited and Pootatuck Watershed Association are encouraging local residents to “ecocycle” their Christmas trees this holiday season.

The two groups will be hosting a Christmas tree collection on Saturday, January 5, from 9 am to 1 pm. The drop-off site will be at the Deep Brook kiosk, off Old Farm Road in Newtown, behind Newtown Park & Bark Park.

Trees for Trout is a program utilized by clean water organizations to improve the habitat for wild trout. Trees that are dropped off in January will be used on the Deep Brook and Pootatuck River to stabilize streambanks, reduce erosion, and create refuge habitat for juvenile trout and other aquatic life.
