DANBURY — New Hope Baptist Church in Danbury will be “Swinging Wide the Doors of Hospitality” to members and friends of Church Women United of Newtown/Greater Danbury for the 2013 May Friendship Day Celebration, taking place Friday, May 10, at 12:30 pm.

The ecumenical ladies and friends of both towns will be enjoying lunch, and a worship service with music and entertainment, as they celebrate this annual event.

The public is invited, but reservations are necessary. Cost is $10 per person, and reservations should be made to Unit Treasurer Peg Forbell, 128 Walnut Tree Hill, Sandy Hook CT 06482. Mrs Forbell can be reached at 203-426-3454 or ecforbell@snet.net. Reservations and payment must be received by Wednesday, May 8.

For 2013 Church Women United has decided to follow a common theme for all three of its annual celebrations. This year CWU units will explore the biblical text Revelation 3:20 (“Behold I stand at the door and knock”).

(CWU celebrations also include Human Rights Day and World Community Day; the former is a “floating celebration,” which can be observed throughout the year, while the latter is generally observed in early November.)

For information about the May 10 celebration contact Celebrations Chair Linda Manganaro at 203-426-3496 or atm_lady@sbcglobal.net or CWU-Newtown/Greater Danbury Unit Chair Darlene Jackson at 203-426-5192 or rascaroo@gmail.com.

The Reverend Dionne Boisiere of New Hope Baptist Church can be contacted as well, at 203-748-5461.

New Hope is at 12 Dr Aaron Samuels Boulevard, off Division Street.

Participants are asked to bring donations for the Danbury soup kitchen and shelter, specifically to honor the late CWU Valiant Woman Annie Orr.

Church Women United is a racially, culturally, theologically inclusive Christian women’s movement, celebrating unity in diversity and working through worship, prayer, study, and action for a world of peace and justice

Current members of the Newtown/Greater Danbury unit are Newtown United Methodist and United Methodist Church of Danbury, Bethel and Newtown Congregational churches, Trinity Episcopal Church, St Rose of Lima and St Edward the Confessor (Roman Catholic churches), Valley Presbyterian Church and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Brookfield, and New Hope Baptist Church in Danbury.
