Clifford Clarke Walker, 87, of Newtown died November 29, after a courageous battle with cancer. A lifelong Newtown resident, he was born May 31, 1927, to Edna Pearl (Canfield) and Clarke Skidmore Walker.

He was a 1945 graduate of Hawley School. He received an associate of arts degree and a bachelor of science degree from the University of Bridgeport in 1949 and the UConn School of Pharmacy in 1951. He was a licensed pharmacist in Connecticut and New York and was a member of the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity. He worked at Yale New Haven Hospital, then Cashman’s Pharmacy in Newtown before becoming director of pharmacy at Fairfield Hills Hospital for 38 years, from 1954 to 1992. An avid railroad enthusiast, he loved and was known for his meticulously detailed HO gauge train layout.

He was a member of Newtown Congregational Church, and was a direct line relation to Reverend Thomas Tousey, who was the first minister of the church.

He enjoyed being active with his wife, children and grandchildren’s organizations, and events over the years, in particular, being Santa for Newtown’s Christmas Tree Lighting, helping with the C.H. Booth Library’s Annual Labor Day Book Sale Food Tent, and being a member of the NHS Band Parents Association. He was a fan of UConn sports. He took pleasure in being around family and friends and in the many trips to the Cape and Cold Spring and Ossining, N.Y. He was a smart, gentle, loving man with a big sense of humor, full of stories to tell and a remarkable memory of family history. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His grandson Adam, 9 years old, remembers his grandfather, saying, “He is in our hearts and will be with us always.”

His loving wife of 58 years, Marie (Ferris) Walker; his three children and spouses, Darlene and Andy Spencer, Dale and Carol Walker, and Linda and Steven Uhde; and his three grandchildren, Karla Sypek, Jeffrey Spencer, and Adam Uhde, survive Mr Walker.

The family is grateful for the help and support of Visiting Angels and Regional Hospice.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 pm, Tuesday, December 2, at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. Funeral services will be held at Honan Funeral Home, Wednesday, December 3, at 11 am. Interment at Newtown Village Cemetery will follow.

Memorial donations may be made to Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street, Newtown CT 06470 or Praxair Cancer Center, 95 Locust Avenue, Danbury CT 06810.
